Eating disorders alliance targets patients with limited resources
A new South Florida program will use postdoctoral fellows to offer outpatient eating disorders treatment to individuals with limited ability to pay for services.
The Palm Beach County-based Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness last week held a grand opening event for its psychological service program, with the opening attended by members of the U.S. Congress. Under the treatment effort, two postdoctoral fellows will see at least 75 patients a year. The patients will pay a nominal fee based on their income level.
A description of the initiative on the alliance's website states, “There are very few treatment providers throughout our area that will work with uninsured families, leaving them vulnerable with no resources for proper treatment.”
The Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness has been in existence since 2000.
