Addiction Professional wins national ASHPE award

Addiction Professional has again been recognized by the American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors (ASHPE) in its annual awards competition. This year, the publication received a Bronze Award for Best New Department for its Process Addictions column, which debuted in January 2012.

“The Process Addictions column was established to reflect the addiction treatment community’s increased need for information about treating community’s increased need for information about treating compulsive behaviors that resemble substance addictions,” said Gary Enos, editor of Addiction Professional. So far, the Process Addictions column has covered topics regarding sex addiction, eating disorders, pathological gambling, and compulsive shopping and hoarding.

The sample columns that ASHPE reviewed during the judging process included an article by recovering gambling addict Michael Burke on the importance of screening patients with substance addiction for gambling problems, and an article by Addiction Professional associate editor Shannon Brys on assisting the partners of individuals who have a sex addiction.
