California Initiative Promotes Tobacco-Free Treatment Environments
Substance use treatment programs in California are eligible for funding assistance to enhance screening and treatment for nicotine addiction, via an initiative from the state's Department of Public Health and the state Tobacco Control Program.
The Tobacco-Free for Recovery Project intends to reduce tobacco use among individuals with behavioral health disorders in community residential facilities. It also seeks to promote the implementation of other wellness policies within these facilities, such as more frequent exercise breaks and the availability of healthier food options.
The project seeks to assist residential facilities in adopting tobacco-free campus policies and in implementing evidence-based nicotine addiction treatment, according to the text of a request for applications from the state.
Up to $540,000 will be available for up to 15 projects over an 18-month grant period. The application deadline is Jan. 28.
