An old Dermatology tool gets a new life in Wound Care.

DermaBlade Shave Biopsy Instrument is a tool invented by and for dermatologists to perform shave biopsies and assist with Mohs surgeries. However, this widely available instrument is an excellent adjunct in the debridement tool kit of a wound care practitioner.

Dermablade is affordable and easy to use.It serves two main purposes:1. DermaBlade allows rapid debridement of any hypergranulatory tissue that protrudes above the periwound. It is especially helpful when dealing with larger wounds where debridement using curettes or scalpels is a daunting task.

Conventional curettes cause rugged semilunar cuts, and even the largest curettes or scalpels do not have the cutting surface that DermaBlade offers. In addition, scalpels are not practical due to unfavorable holding angles when debriding hypergranulation. 2. DermaBlade allows precise leveling of the wound base and periwound, allowing keratinocytes to close the tissue defect by moving from periwound centrally.

As a result, debridement using the Dermablade facilitates the merging of wound edges. We intend to present a case series where utilization of DermaBlade allowed the precision level of debridement of complex wounds, which was not possible using conventional wound debridement tools.
